About Fact-Of-The-Day

Who We Are

FactOTD is a daily knowledge platform dedicated to making curiosity effortless. We publish one hand-picked fact every day, alongside in-depth articles that explain the science, history, and context behind each claim. We believe that a great fact is more than a parlor trick — it's an invitation to understand the world a little better.

The site was created by a team of self-described knowledge addicts — people who actually pause mid-conversation to look things up, who fall down Wikipedia rabbit holes at 11pm, and who have been known to start sentences with “did you know that…” more than is socially acceptable. Our backgrounds span software engineering, journalism, and science communication. What we share is a conviction that learning should be accessible, trustworthy, and genuinely enjoyable.

Our Mission

The internet is not short on facts. What it is short on is context. A one-liner trivia fact is fun at a dinner party; understanding why it's true is what actually changes how you see things. Our mission is to bridge that gap — to take the world's most fascinating facts and give them the depth they deserve.

We cover twelve main categories — science, space, history, technology, nature, animals, geography, food, music, psychology, literature, and more. Each category has dozens of facts and a growing library of long-form articles that go beyond the headline.

We are, and intend to remain, fully independent. We are not owned by a media conglomerate and we don't take money to promote specific viewpoints. Our editorial decisions are made on the basis of what's interesting, accurate, and useful — not what's trending or commercially convenient.

Our Editorial Process

Every fact and article published on FactOTD goes through a deliberate verification process. Here is exactly how it works:

Step 1 — Source identification: Before we write a single word, we locate the original source for a claim. That means reading the actual study, the original historical document, or the primary institutional record — not just a news article about it.

Step 2 — Contextual accuracy: We ask: is this fact true in all circumstances, or only under specific conditions? Many popular “facts” are technically accurate but functionally misleading without context. We present the full picture.

Step 3 — Writing and review: Our articles are written to be educational first, entertaining second. A second editor reviews each article for factual accuracy, source quality, and clarity before publication.

Step 4 — Corrections: We maintain a correction policy described in our Editorial Policy. Errors are corrected with transparency, not deleted.

What We Offer

  • Daily Facts — A new verified fact every day, curated for curiosity and accuracy. Browse the archive by category to find facts in science, history, space, and more.
  • In-Depth Articles — Long-form explorations of the facts behind the facts. Each article is 800–1,500 words of original, well-sourced writing with full attribution.
  • Community Reactions — Vote on facts using our reaction system (shocking, interesting, geeky, boring). The most popular facts surface to the top of each category.
  • Mobile-First Design — The site is designed to be readable everywhere, in any light condition, on any device. No popups, no aggressive ads, no autoplay.

Our Standards

We take the following commitments seriously:

  • Accuracy over virality. We would rather publish fewer facts than publish inaccurate ones. If a claim can't be verified, it doesn't get published.
  • Sources over assertions. Every article links to its sources. You should always be able to check our work.
  • Transparency over reputation. When we get something wrong, we say so clearly and correct it. Our editorial credibility depends on this.
